Guest Author: Deb Marlowe

My guest today is a USA Today best-selling author who grew up in Pennsylvania but now lives in North Carolina. I have seen her at a few RT Conventions but it wasn’t until the inaugural Booklovers Con in New Orleans this year that we actually met. In fact, the event was “Round the World in 80 minutes” and while I manned the Australia tent with fellow Aussie author, Khloe Wren, my guest, Deb Marlowe manned the “England” tent. It wasn’t surprising that she chose England as her country as she has said she has always loved England. It was her love of England, history and men in breeches that led her to writing her wonderful Regency Romances.

Now, if you haven’t ever read a book by Deb Marlowe, her books are definitely a treat waiting for you. She has published many novels and novellas and I have read and loved her Half Moon House series and am currently reading some of her backlist from the Holiday Series. (Still haven’t started on her work from the Castle Keyvnor Collections and there are many other stories on my TBR list!!) Deb also writes young adult fantasy adventure as D.M. Marlowe.
A very warm welcome to Deb Marlowe!!

Thanks for joining me on the blog today, Deb.

First, can you tell us about your latest release and whether or not it posed any particular challenges to you as you wrote it?

My latest release is The Lady’s Lover, and yes, it did present some challenges!  The book is the last in the Half Moon House series.  The series revolves around a former courtesan named Hestia Wright, a gently bred woman who was ruined as a girl by a wicked nobleman. As was all too common back then, her family and Society abandoned and rejected her. Hestia, however, refuses to take such injustice and fade away to a sad end.

Instead, she decided that if she is going to be labeled a whore, she will become the BEST one EVER. She does just that and now she has risen to fortune, power and influence—and used it to open Half Moon House, where any woman can come to her for help.

Each story in the series is about a woman who has come to her, and Hestia’s history and her battles with the man who ruined her from the backdrop to the series.  After writing eleven books in the series, I am so attached to Hestia!  I hated to think of being done with her.  She’s been through so much, I felt the pressure of writing her story and giving her her Happily Ever After.  But I’m so happy with how it turned out!

I'm really looking forward to reading it!
You have been a regular attendee at the RT conventions over the years and I notice you will also be attending/also attended the Historical Romance Retreat this month. There are so many fabulous events at this retreat and I hope I'll be there one day. What are you most looking forward to attending/what were some of the highlights of the retreat for you?

Anyone who loves Historical Romance will love the Historical Romance Retreat!  It really is a magical weekend.  Most of the events are scheduled singly, so the authors and readers really get to spend a lot of time together and get to know each other.  We have all sorts of historical fun—teas, gaming, crafting, music, historic liquor tastings, workshops, parties and a grand ball.  I encourage everyone to give it a try—you’ll make new friends and have a blast!

What inspired you to write young adult fantasy adventure novels?

I read a lot of YA with my kids and I wanted to write something they could read.  The series is packed full of things they love—parkour and Japanese folk tales and mystery and even food.  :-)

Your covers are beautiful but I confess I have a favourite. I love the cover (and the title incidentally) of Tall, Dark and Disreputable. Do you have a favourite/couple of favourite covers?

I think my favorites so far are The Lady’s Lover and Eye of the Ninja! Both reflect their characters so well, and I think that’s what makes me love them.

What’s next for you as an author?

I have a new Regency Historical series coming, called The Series of Unconventional Courtships.  I hope everyone will enjoy them as much as I am!

I'm sure it'll be another brilliant series!

Thanks for joining me today on the blog. I hope you'll join me next week for my interview with Anna Bradley who is another wonderful writer of historical romances.

Until then, happy reading!

Best wishes,
Alyssa

  3. So, as I mentioned above, I've found it impossible to leave a comment on this blog via my phone. Since starting this blog, I've had many emails from people who've found it impossible to comment despite numerous attempts. One of my guests, Melanie Milburne, said that she tried all day to leave a comment when she was my guest author and almost gave up.
I'm wondering whether it's because it's difficult/impossible from phones? I've now been able to get back on my laptop tonight and have had no trouble commenting via the laptop.
Can anyone shed any light on these difficulties?
Please remember, that if you particularly want to leave a comment and are having difficulty, email me at alyssaj.montgomeryromance@gmail.com and I will copy your comment onto the page for you.
