Guest Author: Christine Feehan

Amazingly talented and prolific are two of the first words that spring to mind as I start to write this short blog article about today’s guest author. My mind is literally boggling as I try to wrap my head around her publishing schedule just from August to November with her title “Dark Legacy” being published by Berkley on August 28th, another Carpathian novel “Dark Sentinel” having been released on September 4th; “Covert Game” scheduled for release on October 9th and “Leopard’s Run” coming out on November 6th.

I’ll understand if you have to re-read that last sentence but yes, this is the amazing publishing schedule of author Christine Feehan, and the fact that 16 of her titles have been #1 New York Times Bestsellers and all 7 of her series have hit the number 1 spot on the NYT Bestsellers list speak to the depth of her incredible story-telling ability. Among her many accolades, she has also been a recipient of the Paranormal Excellence Awards for Romantic Literature (PEARL) and a finalist for the prestigious RITA Awards.

Welcome to the blogspot, Christine, and thank you very much for your time!

I'd like to start off by asking you to tell us about your latest release and whether it posed any particular difficulties for you.

I think the only challenges have to do with time. I write five books a year so I have to be very disciplined with time management.

Your heroines are women who are more than capable of standing up for themselves and I know you feel so strongly about empowering women that you obtained a third degree black belt and taught self defence to women who’d been abused. I’ve recently written an article on romance novels being empowering for women ( https://breathlessinthebush.blogspot.com/2018/09/romance-novels-and-empowerment-of-women.html) and wondered about your thoughts on this?

I’ve always held the belief that feminism should reflect the supporting of all women to, for and about what they desire and without judgment.  That extends to the reading of romance novels.
And yes, I agree that most modern romance novels do empower women by addressing women’s issues, including sexuality, choice and relationships.

You set a cracking pace with your writing and have successfully combined your professional career with a personal life that seems to have a solid grounding in family. (I was amazed to find you’re not only a grandmother but a great-grandmother, then to learn you have three brothers and ten sisters!) Can you give us a glimpse into a typical weekday for you and just how you manage to juggle the many demands on your time?

I like to think my martial arts training and having so many children helped me to appreciate and employ a healthy amount of self-discipline throughout my career and personal life.

My typical week is like many other people who have a full time job.  I am up in the morning taking care of my dogs and myself.  I start work by 9 a.m. and work until 4 p.m. with the usual breaks for lunch and sanity.
I work 5-6 days a week. I work out as often as I can. My health is very important to me. And, I make time for my family. Often they come over on the weekends. I especially like Sundays since my son-in-law comes over with the kids and makes us all pancakes for breakfast. The house is filled with the laughter of children as I chat, eat a yummy breakfast and drink tea.

I wonder how many families eat pancakes for breakfast on Sundays! My husband's work takes him away regularly but it's a tradition in our household too that if he's home, he makes pancakes on Sunday morning. I'll think of you now as we sit down to them!

If you were able to choose three famous people (alive or deceased) to join you at a dinner party, who would you choose?

Laurie R King, the author of the Mary Russell series.  I adore that series and find her fascinating.
Louisa May Alcott who wrote Little Women because that novel influenced me so much and I’d love to thank her for that.
And Jason Statham because, well, isn’t it obvious?

Little Women was one of my favourite novels as a young girl and I introduced my daughters to Louisa May Alcott's work. I hope her stories continue to prevail from generation to generation.

What’s next for you as an author?

Dark Sentinel was just released and Leopard’s Run will be out November 6th.  Currently, I’m writing Dark Illusions.
As an author, what’s next for me is usually another book to write and I greatly appreciate the support I receive from readers that allows me to do this for a living.

It's been great to have Christine as my guest today. You can find out more about her latest releases and watch some fabulous book trailers at her           website: https://www.christinefeehan.com/

    1. I love that Christine is so prolific. As readers we’re always hungry for the next story. It’s easy to forget sometimes just how much effort goes into the story when it takes less than a day to read!
