Guest Author: Jayne Ann Krentz

It was an absolute thrill for Australian readers to be able to meet Jayne Ann Krentz on her trip to Australia in November last year. It was very interesting to hear all about her writing and how she manages to write across so many sub-genres of romance. As a reader across all three of her different pen names, I find it good to know that I’m going to read a historical romantic suspense when I buy her Amanda Quick titles, a futuristic/paranormal romantic suspense if the story is one by Jayne Castle, and (my favourite) a contemporary romantic suspense by Jayne Ann Krentz.

Jayne Ann was originally a librarian after having gained a B.A. in History and a Masters degree in Library Science. She lives in Seattle with her husband and, when she’s not writing or keeping fit, she loves to cook!

 

I’d like to thank you, Jayne/Amanda, for being a guest author on the blog. Would you tell us about your latest release and whether it posed any particular challenges for you as it was taking shape? 

JAK:  Hi, Alyssa!  Thank you for inviting me to do this interview.  Waving from Seattle to all my reader and writer friends in Australia!  I had such a great time on my cruise to several Australian ports last year.  You all gave me such a warm welcome.  I will never forget it. In fact, Frank and I are planning another cruise in early 2019 that includes several more stops in your wonderful country. Can’t wait! 

Ahem, where was I?  Oh, yes, my latest release.  That would by THE OTHER LADY VANISHES written under my Amanda Quick pen name.  As you know, I’m exploring a new historical landscape -- 1930s California.  Think: Hollywood glam, scandals and intrigue.  This is the second book in that world.  I am finding so many plot ideas to work with I have a hard time choosing just a few for each new book.  In THE OTHER LADY VANISHES, it was the fact that LSD was discovered in the late 1930s that set the wheels in motion for the story.  And then there were those private asylums that were such a popular way to get rid of difficult relatives... Just so much good stuff for a writer!

            

Sounds like we can expect lots of books to spring from all your ideas! Yay!

Your heroines are strong women. Of all the heroines you’ve written are there any who resonate with you more strongly than others—who perhaps are similar in many ways to your personality?

 JAK:  I don’t think of my heroines in personal terms.  Like my heroes, all of my heroines are archetypes who are infused with the classic heroic virtues.  Hey, we all know how a hero or a heroine is supposed to act when the chips are down, right?  Regardless of the hand that they have been dealt by life, we expect them to use the  heroic virtues -- courage, honor, determination, and a belief in the healing power of love -- to do the right thing.
 

Which of your books would you most like to see made into a movie? 

JAK:  I’m not so interested in movies but I’d love to see any of my books made into a TV series!!!  Woo-hoo!  That would be fun. 

Hopefully we'll all read an announcement one day to tell us that's going to happen.

While playing tourist in Australia, what’s your favourite memory of our country?

 JAK:  That’s easy -- the warm and friendly welcome I received at all the reader events that were arranged for me.  It meant so much to me!  Every time I got off the ship to meet readers it felt as if I was going to visit friends.

I think it's fair to say that everyone felt like a friend after having met you, and all appreciated how unhurried you were even though you were on holidays!

                            

What can we expect next from you as an author? 

JAK:  In early January, UNTOUCHABLE, the final book in the trilogy that started with WHEN ALL THE GIRLS HAVE GONE and PROMISE NOT TO TELL will be released.  I’m really excited about this one.  I honestly didn’t know how the story was going to end until I wrote the ending.  Weird how that works for an author, isn’t it? 

It is weird and something I think all authors can probably relate to. Many times I've sat down to write a scene I have in my mind only to have the characters hijack my plans and lead me in a totally different direction.
